Countdown to 150k FPP Part 1
hubmaster, Jun 04 2009
I finished last month playing 5 hours to make Platinum Star for this month. June 1st comes around and I see this little gem in the PS VIP Store:
I've decided to skip out on the 3 smaller bonuses to get at the big one. Normally, I play anywhere from 20-35k hands a month. I started this month with a little over 103k FPP. 72 hours and 16k hands later, I sit with 110k FPP. The most frustrating aspect of grinding at 50NL is that VPP's come so slow. I 20-table for what seems like an eternity only to find out that I've made a few hundred VPP in 1 session. If it wasn't for Platinum status, i'd be killing myself right about now. Will it be possible for me to reach 150k FPP by the end of the month? Any tips/advice? Stay tuned for more updates as the month comes along.
March Update: Slump is thankfully over
hubmaster, Mar 08 2008
Glad to report that as of today, my $95 blow is nothing more than a bad memory. It took me 2 weeks to build up the $95 dollars and then some that I lost in one day, but I was able to overcome it in less time than I thought. Originally, I guessed I would need a month but I guess I learned that expecting the worst makes an accomplishment feel much better. Playing fewer tables, seeking advice in certain situations from friends, and actually thinking about what I'm about to do instead of playing like a robot helped me a lot. Since I can only play a very limited amount of hands per month, it takes me much longer to build up my BR.
Slump comes to an end
So far it's been a very good March. I'm up 900 BB in 10NL for the month of March and were only 1 week into the month. This time last month, I was up a little over 500 BB for the same time and it's way better than the 90 BB for the same period in January. I'm hoping that I can move up a stake to 25NL by month's end. Historically, I always have had trouble when moving up to a higher stake, (idk if this is standard or if this is just me) hopefully, this time around, it will be better. Hopefully, I don't jinx myself and tilt it all away.
March so far
February same time (for some odd reason, there is no 7 day graph for beg of Feb, only 6 or 8)
I made a record today
hubmaster, Feb 23 2008
Today has officially been my worst session to date, dropping $95, or 1/4 of my BR. A combo of not knowing what to do in certain spots plus massive suckouts is to blame. I had 2 sessions today, one in the early morning and one just now, I was down 4 BI early this morning and went down another 5 just now. This somewhat motivates me to get better, but at the same time, i'm pretty damn pissed. This is a huge party foul to an otherwise very good month. Here's a small preview:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/391651 AK faces QJ
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/391650 22 loses to runner flush
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/391649 Probably should have folded to his river bet
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/391648 Probably shohuld have folded flop
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/391645 AQ vs. Check-called KK
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/391643 This hand officially tilted me
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/391642 Set over set, nothing wrong here
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/391099 Should fold flop because I only beat JJ
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/391072 Should have folded turn here, someone give me an excuse not to.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/391067 Badly played on flop, this is the hand that started it all
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/391665 Not a big pot, but nonetheless frustrating
Today's session
Everything up to date, since early December
I'm blaming a lot of today on my game; It's obvious I still have a lot to learn. Poker's really really frustrating right now, it feels like I'm advancing at a snail's pace. 10NL is a bitch to crack right now, i've been playing 10NL for the better part of 3 months, I haven't been able to make steady progress there. I should move down to 5NL but by moving down a stake, I feel as if i'm going backwards instead of forwards. Oh well, I guess I have to put aside my stubbornness for now. Any advice is appreciated. (sigh).
